Buttocks Contouring
Sagging or hanging down of the buttock area is one of the reasons why many women are unhappy with their look. This occurs when skin or fullness in the buttocks hangs over the junction between the thighs and the buttock. This irregularity is untreatable by any type of non-surgical means such as exercise or topical creams. The only way to achieve a more lifted and toned result in this area is to surgically reduce it by removing the excess tissue. While this operation is not for everyone, it is effective in the properly selected patient.
Lack of fullness in the buttock, commonly referred to as “flat butt”, is another reason for general unhappiness with the look of this area. This can occurs due to aging, significant weight loss or it can be congenital condition. The problem can be treated with either fat injections or a buttock implant, depending upon the size and area of the buttock deficiency. Fat injections require an adequate amount of donor tissue to be available, usually from the abdomen. For this reason, very thin patients do not usually have enough fat to harvest to adequately increase the size of the buttock. Buttock implants are solid soft silicone and are available in different sizes and shapes to optimize how much and what part of the buttock is lifted and made larger. Also, buttock implants are stable (do not decrease in size after surgery), while the stability of fat after injection is unpredictable and some fat resorption can be expected.
